Sampson was the 1st known victim of Victor Crowley to die in the first film.

History

Sampson is one of the three teenage boys including Trent Graves that bullied and killed Victor Crowley. He was also the best friend of Bob.

Sampson Dunston along with his son Ainsley are out hunting alligators one night. Ainsley complains that they’ve been out looking for a female alligator for the last three hours. Sampson refuses to leave Honey Island Swamp until he and Ainsley hunt her down. The two of them suddenly hear a loud splash in the water. Sampson briefly stands up to look around. Ainsley then asks him to pull the boat over so he can go urinate. Sampson says to take care of it off the side of the boat because he’s not pulling the boat over. Ainsley relents but then decides not to because he finds it weird with his father sitting like he is. Sampson wants to hear none of it but Ainsley keeps up his complaints. Ainsley finally starts urinating and mutters to himself ‘asshole.’ Sampson hears it and threatens to toss his son into the swamp.

In the middle of Ainsley urinating, an alligator pops out of the water looking to take a bite, causing Ainsley to fall back. Sampson immediately asks what just happened. Sampson furiously picks up a harpoon to throw and blames Ainsley for letting her get away once she’s out of sight again. Ainsley then asks to pull over so he can complete his bathroom break. Sampson gives into pulling over.

Ainsley runs into the woods with Sampson telling him to make it quick. Sampson soon starts hearing distant splashing in the water after it starts thundering. Sampson orders his son to remain where he is. Sampson believes that the alligator the father and son are hunting has returned.

When Ainsley returns to the boat, he finds his father dead and torn apart. Ainsley picks up the spear challenging the alligator come get some more only to come face to face with Victor Crowley. Ainsley then meets the same fate as his father.

Personality

Sampson is a cranky old man who favors his daughter over his son much to Ainsley’s frustration.
